Everything you Need to Know About Renting and Buying Demo Packages at Steamboat Resort

This trip could give you the edge you need to find yourself in a new pair of ski’s or riding a new board this season. If you’ve been hesitant to commit to a new winter ride, renting demos can be a great way to see what you like or dislike before committing. You can trade out your demos during your trip for a different setup to trial what works best for you. At the end of your trip if you decide you just can’t part with your new favorite, we can apply the cost of your rental towards your purchase.

Our shops offer personalized individual attention by expert technicians, computerized rental technology, professional overnight tuning and repair, overnight ski and board storage, gifts, clothing, and accessories. Select the Demo package that is right for you. We offer a full Demo package for ages 13+ that includes the latest models, helmet, boots, and poles, or select the ski/snowboard only option when brining your own boots. Ski brands include Blizzard, Dynastar, Elan, Head, K2, Nordica, Rossignol, Salomon, Stockli, Volkl, and Snowboard brands include Burton, K2, Salomon.

Steamboat Sports is the official gear shop of Steamboat Resort and Ski Town U.S.A.®, with four convenient locations including the closest rental location to the slopes, just steps from the gondola. WHAT IS THE RENTAL PROCESS?
STEP 1:
Decide start date, what type of rental package, and the number of days you need.

STEP 2:
Once you know the type of package and the number of days, you will go through the check out process. You will need your height, weight, shoe size and type of skier/rider to allow our technicians to provide you with the appropriate equipment and binding settings. You will also choose the Steamboat Sport rental shop location and schedule a date and time by using our rental fitting appointment process (see step #3). If you are a guest of The Steamboat Grand, you will need to select ‘Steamboat Sports – The Steamboat Grand’ location, conveniently located on the lobby level of the hotel.

STEP3:
Schedule your rental fitting appointment, which allows you to schedule a window of time to get fitted for your equipment of up to 4 people. If you have more than 4 rental reservations, you will need to make two renal fitting appointments. It is highly recommended to make a rental fitting appointment in advance as walk-in rental pick up and fitting process could be delayed. You will also receive an email from rentals@steamboat.com on information on how to schedule a rental fitting appointment once you have booked your equipment rentals. Note: Steamboat Sports allows rental pick up/rental fitting appointments any time after 3:00pm the day prior to your rental start date. Also, a child 12 and under rents free with one adult, parent or guardian, paid rental reservation of 3 or more days.

WHAT’S INCLUDED IN MY RENTAL PACKAGE?

  • All rentals include helmets.
  • Skis, boots, and poles are included in ski rentals.
  • Snowboards and boots are included in snowboard rentals.

WHERE AND WHEN CAN I PICK UP MY RENTALS?
Rentals can be picked up at one of the four Steamboat Sports rental shops located in the base area; Steamboat Square, Sheraton Hotel, Torian Plum Plaza or The Steamboat Grand (for hotel guests only).

Steamboat Sports rental shops open at 7:30am, but allow fittings starting after 3:00pm the night prior to schedule rental start date.

Please plan adequate time to pick up and fit your rental equipment in advance. Pro tip: we recommend scheduling a rental fit time appointment for the night prior to your lesson date. Guests without an advanced rental fit appointment or “walk-ins” are not guaranteed immediate rental service and should expect longer wait times. Note: One child 12 or under rents free with one paid adult, parent or guardian, rental of 3 or more days.

IF I PURCHASE A MULTI-DAY RENTAL PACKAGE, DO I HAVE TO USE MY RENTALS CONSECUTIVE DAYS?
No, rental packages that are 3 or more days, like lift tickets, include ‘grace days’ to allow individuals to take a day off of skiing and riding. 3 and 4 day rental packages include 1 grace day and 5 or more day rental packages include 2 grace days. 1 and 2 day rentals are date specific and do not include grace days.

WHAT IS A RENTAL FITTING APPOINTMENT?
A rental fitting appointment is when you get fitting for your equipment at our Steamboat Sports locations.. Once you reserve or pre-purchase your rental reservation, guests will receive an email from rentals@steamboat.com* on more information on scheduling a rental fitting appointment.

Schedule a Rental Fitting Appointment

WHAT INFORMATION DO I NEED TO MAKE A RENTAL RESERVATION?
You will need the following information for each person in your group for our technicians to select the appropriate equipment and get you on the slopes quicker.
1. Age (Adult rentals are ages 13+, child is 12 and under)
2. Height, weight, shoe size*
3. Ski/Riding Type* (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced)
*These measurements and levels help determine the release setting of bindings for safety reasons. It is important to give accurate information – safety first!

CAN I STORE MY RENTAL SKIS OR SNOWBOARD WHERE I RENTED THEM FROM?
Yes, Steamboat Sports offers limited complimentary storage for skis and snowboards. Or we have additional storage and locker options in the base area for purchase.

IS A HELMET INCLUDED WITH MY RENTAL?
Helmets are included with all rental packages. Helmets are required for all SnowSports lesson participants age 17 and under.

IS LIFT ACCESS INCLUDED WITH MY RENTAL?
Lift access is required and NOT included with rentals. Lift access is only included with night skiing rentals.

WHAT DO I WEAR FOR SOCKS?
We recommend one pair of knee-high wool blend or ski-specific socks. Avoid ankle socks and cotton socks, and do not wear multiple pairs of socks. More sock layers will not keep your feet warmer, but rather decrease blood circulation and lead to colder feet. We also recommend not tucking your base layer into your boots, as this can create friction between your skin and boots and lead to discomfort.

WHAT ARE THE DEPOSIT AND CANCELLATION POLICIES?

Before Arrival:
If you need a refund on your rental package, or to make a change to your reservation and you placed it directly through our call center Steamboat Central Reservations, please contact them directly at 877-237-2628. If you booked your reservation through one of our Steamboat Sports rental shops directly, please email rentals@steamboat.com to speak with a representative. Please have your credit card & reservation number ready.

After Arrival:
If you have already checked in and have your rental equipment in your possession, and are seeking a refund for unused days, please return all equipment to the shop that you rented from and see a rental cashier on site. Refunds will not be processed for unused days of fulfilled rental packages via phone and must be completed in person before you leave Steamboat.
