If you love skiing and live music, keep reading.

The weekend of the WinterWonderGrass Festival in Steamboat has it all, and will be going down from February 28 – March 2. Filled with fun and exciting live music, skiing, snowshoeing and many other outdoor winter activities, and a crowd comprised of locals and out-of-towners alike who create a community vibe synonymous with the event and the town of Steamboat Springs.

Since 2013, when WinterWonderGrass first came to Steamboat, the impact of the festival has stretched much farther than just the music being played, and the people who come to enjoy it. One of these ways is in the coordination and featuring of over 20 Colorado craft breweries in the daily complimentary beer tasting. Giving these smaller breweries the platform and opportunity to get their product out in front of people helps their business, and in turn leads to a heightened experience for all of the guests.

Another way that WWG has a positive impact on our community is the nonprofit work they do each year. Last year alone, over $50k was donated to local nonprofits across all of their events. Similar to last year, this year the festival has also partnered with Minimal Impact – an intentional, women-owned company whose purpose is to empower people to alleviate their burden on the environment and to reduce dependence on fossil fuel derived plastic. They do this by providing refillable, toxin free products, minimal waste event services, and education to sustain a minimal impact lifestyle. These are just some of the ways WinterWonderGrass goes above and beyond to support the communities that host it.

While the official start of the festival is Friday, February 28th, you won’t want to miss Thursday afternoon’s free concert at Steamboat Stage by Heavy Diamond Ring, to ring in WinterWonderGrass.

Whether you make it up for the HDR concert on Thursday afternoon or not, you’re sure to be in for a weekend of unforgettable memories, top notch skiing, and the melodic twang of bluegrass tunes emanating from the base of Steamboat.

Start each of your days off with some turns on your board or skis. With the new Wild Blue Gondola stretching from Steamboat’s base to summit, it’s never been easier to get up high for some turns. The Sunshine Express Lift and Sunshine bowl terrain offer some of our most enjoyable intermediate runs.

For those looking to venture out and explore the glades and nuanced terrain at Steamboat, be sure to check out our new terrain off of the Mahogany Ridge Express Lift. This terrain opened to the public as in-bounds terrain for the first time in the 23/24 season, and is an awesome area to explore as the terrain rides very similarly to the backcountry. Be aware that this is steep, advanced/expert and extreme terrain, so please know before you go and ski with a partner. A great way to explore this terrain in a more controlled environment is our new Private Guided Experience, allowing you to team up with an instructor and ski patroller to get the most out of your ski adventure.

If you’re more on the beginner side, be sure to check out all of the progression opportunities we have available in our SnowSports School. Our instructors are top notch and can get you to the level you’re striving to ski/ride at in a fun and low stakes environment. With both private and group lessons, as well as a number of other learning experiences, you’re bound to find the experience you’re looking for. Our new learning center, Greenhorn Ranch, has become our home base for beginner level lessons and to warm up the legs after some time off the hill. Whether in a lesson or on your own, this dedicated learning area has become a transformational piece of the resort, allowing for beginners to progress in a manner more suitable for them, without the outside distractions on the rest of the mountain.

As your ski day comes to a close, swing past either The Range Food and Drink Hall or Timber and Torch for tasty beverages and awesome food options to satisfy you after a full ski day.

Time to stroll across the street and end your day with some foot-thumping bluegrass music. WinterWonderGrass is conveniently located on the other side of Mount Werner Cir. from the base of Steamboat Resort. Go for the top-notch music, multitude of unique food vendors, the daily beer-tastings, or just do it all. There really is no wrong way to experience WinterWonderGrass and it is sure to put the cherry on top of an already great trip to Steamboat.
