Ladies! Elevate your mountain biking game with these summer evening lessons.

Learn new skills or sharpen your trail talents with Steamboat’s Gravity Girls Mountain Bike Clinics this August. The two-hour women’s-only group lessons are designed to help build mountain biking skills and foster a growing women’s biking community. Gravity Girls evening downhill mountain bike clinics are open to women ages 10 or older of all skill levels.

“It’s a clinic that’s not just for the new rider and not just for someone who wants to get better at downhill,” says Steamboat bike park manager Jon Feiges. “This clinic will teach you great skills for all mountain biking and is perfect for anyone who wants to take it to the next level.”

When: August 17 and 24, 2023

Time: 4:30 to 6:30pm

Meet: Steamboat Sports, 2305 Mt. Werner Circle

Cost: Clinic + bringing your own bike: $55. Clinic + Trek Session downhill bike rental: $99.

What to Expect

Riders are welcome to show up as early as 4pm at the bike shop and secure bike rentals and any needed gear. The clinic begins promptly at 4:30p.m. The group will meet with coaches who will then gauge where rider wants and needs are and decide whether to split the group into beginner and more advanced rider groups.

Beginners will ride a shuttle to easier flow trails lower on the mountain. More advanced riders will take the gondola to the top of the resort to access a flowing run of beginner, intermediate and advanced trails.

All clinics will begin with fundamentals, with coaches meeting riders where they are in their mountain biking journeys. Basics will include finding and lowering center of gravity while riding downhill, form and bike function. As groups ride, coaches will take stops to provide feedback and offer demonstrations.

The Terrain

Beginner / green flow trails will be Cowpoke and Lickysplit.

Intermediate flow trail is Rustlers.

Advanced flow trails will include Flying Diamond or Rawhide.

What to Bring

A downhill mountain bike, pads, sunglasses, gloves, helmet, water, hiking or biking shoes. Don’t wear anything too loose that can get caught up in the bike. The bike shop can supply things like gloves and helmets if needed.

Save Your Spot

Book Gravity Girls Downhill Mountain Biking Clinics online. Lessons tend to fill up and max out at eight participants, so the sooner you secure your spot, the better.

“We want to grow the sport and get more people to ride with us,” says Feiges. “We saw a population that was excited about biking, but didn’t feel like the community was helping them get there. So, we’re putting them in a group where they’re supported and in a strong community setting with certified instructors.”
