Steamboat Resort has always been known as a family-friendly ski area in the winter, and really, the same holds true in the summertime. The base area at Steamboat Resort in the summer is especially fantastic for kids and adults alike.

The Burgess Creek Beach, at the base of the mountain, is certainly a summertime highlight not to miss. Chilly waters straight from the mountains meet soft and sandy beaches where kids can play while adults can relax in Adirondack chairs lining the creek.

The creek itself used to flow underground before Steamboat Resort decided to raise and expose it for summertime enjoyment. The exposed creek area starts outside of Slopeside Grill, and runs adjacent to the base area and Gondola Square until it flows back underground (temporarily) towards the end of the promenade (near the southeastern side of One Steamboat Place). Several beach areas line the shores, and a feature waterfall captures the essence of Steamboat Resort in the summertime perfectly.

If you have only visited Steamboat Springs in the winter, you may have a hard time envisioning the Burgess Creek Beach area as it’s packed in with snow when the ski slopes are open. As the snow melts in the spring, more and more of Burgess Creek becomes exposed until it turns into a beachy oasis in the middle of the mountains during the summer.

My kids (two boys, ages 4 and 7) have tried, tested and approved many times over the Burgess Creek Beach area. On a warm summertime evening as the sun is lowering in the sky and the mountain lights up naturally as a stunning backdrop, the Burgess Creek Beach feels quite magical, and in a lot of ways, the definition of summertime perfection.

Just as the Burgess Creek Beach area is magical in the summertime, so too are Steamboat’s gorgeous cross-country bike trails that wind through aspen glades, pine forests and open meadows with endlessly stunning views

As we’re all finding more time to enjoy the outdoors, I hope you too find time to enjoy a true Steamboat gem: the Burgess Creek Beach at Steamboat Resort. Until next time, have a great rest of the summer!
