Sometimes I wish I were a better photographer. Perhaps then I’d have at least a remote shot at describing how utterly gorgeous our mountain is today. This is absolutely one of my best days on the slopes this year.
There’s just something about the mixture of stark-blue sky and shimmering, warm sun that puts an ear-to-ear smile on my face. The groomed terrain of our snowy mountain is manicured to perfection. You simply can’t go wrong exploring anywhere off the Sundown or Sunshine lifts today. And in this area, you’ll find nothing short of sweet perfection in both natural and groomed terrain.
Today is the first day of spring, and with a new season comes an overall sense of lightness in one’s soul. My skis seemed to open up a bit on the wider, sweeping runs while my lungs enjoyed every gasp of crisp, clean air. Though my pace was quick, the rush of early morning turns seemed to almost change to slow motion as I glided my way down. On a morning like this, it’s difficult not to become hyper-aware of your surroundings and the joy that spring skiing offers.
The U.S. Freestyle Championships are still in motion along Mayer’s Mogul Course today. Watching blazing young hot shots manipulate their way down a 1,000-foot vertical, adrenaline-gathering track while boosting huge, lofty back flips is jaw dropping. Definitely worth checking out if you’re at the resort.
Enjoy this day. It’s a special thing to have this level of mountain bliss while enjoying the snow sports we know and love. So get here and take advantage and not for granted.
Happy spring!
