A Whole Lotta Spring
It feels like springtime on Mt. Werner. We lost an hour yesterday, but gained some extra light this morning. I started a little later than usual and swapped Sundown First Tracks runs for a few on the Storm Peak side. The snow is great and carvy on all the groomers this morning.

First thing, I stuck to the runs that were out of yesterday’s glorious afternoon sunshine. Rudi’s Run still had some corduroy on the left side, and I had Cyclone to myself. The corduroy here was firm yet forgiving and smooth all the way down.

I admit to having a difficult time with spring forward. I woke up Sunday to a sun-filled room discovering I was already behind. A 10 a.m. wake-up turned into a late brunch and then a day spent wondering where the time went.
On the bright side, afternoons on the mountain just got longer with the switch to extended spring hours. You can now sleep in and still get hours of fabulous afternoon slush. Whew!

I spent the early morning zipping around on the groomed slopes, from Storm Peak face to Rainbow, then later to the Sundown side. High Noon and One ‘O Clock were surprisingly soft this morning and great to sink an edge into. Heavenly Daze to See Me was a little firmer but still lovely and carveable.

Today may be a mixed bag with weather. When I skied down, there were still high clouds and the light was getting slightly flatter. There is a chance for snow showers today, but if the sun comes out, follow it to the slopes on Sunshine Peak. If you want to catch One, Two and Three O’Clock in their full glory, you literally ski them at the corresponding hour because that’s when the sun shines directly on them. You won’t go wrong with groomers even if the clouds persist.

We are welcoming many spring breakers this week, so ski with care. We also look forward to a rockin’ free show with Turquaz from Brooklyn this Saturday as part of our St. Paddy’s weekend celebration. It takes me back to the days of the annual St. Patrick’s Day bump off on Chute 1. It got a little too wild and is no longer, but I have so many fun memories from back in the day.
Happy skiing and riding!
