Late summer is upon us here in the Yampa Valley. As dry conditions continue across all of the greater Rockies and temperatures persist above average this summer, the mountain has offered many a much needed escape into the shaded tree-lined trails and activities at cooler high elevations. We took a look into escaping the heat this weekend by getting out into the full 18-hole Disc-Golf course on the mountain as well as the multi-use Creekside Trial.

Creekside trail is a great escape with easy access to hiking along burgess creek. Both the Pioneer and Creekside trails are accessed from near the top of the Zig Zag trail. If accessing lower Creekside trailhead from Burgess Creek road, just be alert for down trail biking traffic on this multi-use trail.

Steamboat offers a full 18-hole disc-golf course on the lower mountain accessible from the Zig Zag hiking trail and the service road. The course switchbacks between the base of Thunderhead lift and Bashor lift. Highlights include short tight technical shots through wooded, hilly terrain and natural obstacles.
