Steamboat Springs must have been on Santa’s “Good List” this year, receiving 29 inches of fresh snow since Christmas Eve. And even better, more snow is expected every day through the end of the week! While the ski season may have started in a lackluster fashion in terms of snow, the year is ending on a much higher and whiter note, complete with the doubly appropriate, champagne powder®! Happy holidays!

A wintry wonderland in the trees between Why Not and Rudi’s Run.

Watching Steamboat transition into the wintry wonderland that we all love this time of year has certainly brought with it the holiday magic. Last Wednesday as I carved the corduroy on Tomahawk in the early morning sun, I could feel the weather shifting. The snow had not yet begun to fall, but it was highly, highly anticipated. Fast forward nearly one week and Steamboat is dressed in winter’s most beautiful white blanket.

Steamboat is now dressed in winter’s most beautiful white blanket!

With nearly two and a half feet of snow since Friday, Steamboat Resort now has 98 inches for the season total. Those totals have helped the base quite a bit with the summit reporting a 54-inch base and mid-mountain reporting a 37-inch base. And the snow is not over yet. Another six inches is expected in the next 24 hours, and more each day until 2022!

Moonlight with some unexpected sunlight made for a fun little run with my 5 year old, Skylar.

Along with the help of Mother Nature, Steamboat’s snowmaking team has continued to work its magic across lower elevation slopes. Steamboat currently has 12 of 17 lifts open and 124 of 170 trails open. Each day more terrain is opening up, giving skiers and riders more options and more smiles.

More terrain and slopes opening up brings more smiles to skiers and riders.

The holidays in Steamboat can be a busy time of the year, but they are also the perfect time to ski and ride with friends and family. My two boys (ages 5 and 8) had a blast skiing with my cousins who have been coming to Steamboat since they were nearly that age themselves. Watching them chase each other down our favorite slopes made the spirit of family and togetherness come to light in a very Steamboat way.

Skiing with family makes the holidays more festive and fun!

From champagne flakes to families being together to stunning winter scenes around the Yampa Valley, Steamboat Springs certainly is a dreamy winter wonderland, sure to make your holiday wishes come true.

Until next year, ski and ride with care and have a great day on the mountain!

Happy Tuesday!
