Stay safe on the mountain during early season
Winter is in full swing in the Yampa Valley, and Mother Nature is doing her part to help Steamboat Ski Resort have a great opening day Wednesday. The storm had dropped 17 inches at mid-mountain and 20 inches at the summit by Monday morning with more snow forecast through Wednesday.
We know skiers and riders are anxious to make some turns in the fresh powder, but we’re asking people to stay safe by keeping off the trails while snowmakers, groomers and ski patrollers are busy getting the mountain ready.
“Heavy machinery, snowmaking hose, guns and equipment along with snowcats, including the new Bison Winch Cat, are out in full force, so please stay off the mountain until opening day,” Vice President of Mountain Operations Doug Allen said.
The ski area is scheduled to open Wednesday for Scholarship Day, an annual fundraiser that benefits the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club scholarship program. Tickets will be $30 for access to all open terrain or $20 for access to the lower mountain. Season passes and other tickets will be accepted beginning Thursday.
After the mountain opens, it’s important to remember that early season conditions exist. Please obey all trail closures and be aware that unmarked obstacles exist.
