Powder, creamy soft groomers and sunshine… this week is off to a very good start.

Powder turns

When I left the resort yesterday afternoon, the snow was coming down steady and I knew that Monday morning would be treating us right in Steamboat.  While the morning snow report may have convinced you to hit snooze on your alarm today, the skiing this morning was like a dream and you should have jumped out of bed.  The corduroy on the mountain is cream cheese smooth and carving deep in every turn.  This morning may have been the softest groomers we have seen all year – absolutely superb.

Freshly groomed snow

The first part of the morning was spent flying around Storm Peak laying our signatures through all the lines of corduroy we could find.  There were so many great groomer choices today – make sure you always grab a grooming report on your way up the Gondola to find out where the carpet is fresh!  Empty runs and soft snow while the sun’s rays slowly spread over the mountain really made this Monday morning feel like anything but Monday morning.

Snowboarder carves turns

Groomers are always fun, but when there are fresh tracks to be had in the trees it is hard to stay away.  We moved our focus to the Pony Express area to find our way through the new blanket of snow covering the mountain.  With no other skiers in sight, Pony was a treat today offering freshies on any run we chose.  Even when the rest of the mountain has seen some traffic, there will always be fresh turns to be found in Pony.  Boot deep fresh around every turn did not disappoint.

Powder in the trees

The sun is shining bright under a deep blue Colorado sky and it is going to be a great day out there.  Temperatures are warm and the mountain is empty, so grab your gear and get up for some fresh turns in paradise.

Pick of the mountain today is Buddy’s Run – the early corduroy was soft, deep and excellent.

See you on the mountain!
