Routt County Community Scholarships
In the 1994/95 winter season, Steamboat Ski & Resort established an educational scholarship program to students pursuing higher education. Almost 30 years later, we are proud to have given over half a million dollars ($517,345) to more than 805 students in Routt County. This year, the resort continued its tradition and has awarded $54,000 to 28 students.
Student’s were awarded scholarship funds based off a number of criteria, including academic performance, work commitments or extra-curricular activities, and resilience in the face of difficult circumstances. These scholarships will help the recipients pursue both education and career paths through University, agricultural school and trade school.
These scholarships are a testament to the bright young minds throughout our community. Scholarship recipients included students from Steamboat Springs High School, Hayden High School and SOROCO, Steamboat Mountain School, as well as enrolled and current undergraduate students and homeschooled students.
When asked about her future plans and receiving this scholarship, Steamboat Springs High School Senior Scarlet Pepin said, “I’m attending Washington State University and plan to study psychology. I’m proud and grateful to receive this scholarship. It means a lot to me that Steamboat Resort believes in me and it really does make a difference in paying for college.”
In addition to this, there were also two scholarships granted to students who are also active employees for the resort. Steamboat Resort and the YVCF are also actively committed to helping to diversify the workforce through scholarship as well.
The Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation DEI Scholarship made a grant of $3,500 to an international Colorado Mountain College student in hopes of easing their financial burden and allowing them a more equitable opportunity to achieve their desired degree. Our commitment to helping provide opportunity within the community is paramount to Steamboat’s commitment to bettering its community and the members within it.
