Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!  The last two weeks in Steamboat have been nothing short of amazing, and the powder just keeps coming.  It was snowing big, fat flakes last night, and I had no problem jumping out of bed today after seeing the snow report early this morning.  Steamboat is looking mighty fine right now with 16″ of snow at the summit in the last 24 hours, and 22″ in the last 48 hours.  If you aren’t familiar with the live Steamboat Powder Cam, it is time to check it out and keep it on your radar.  I look at it more than I would like to admit.

Although Christmas is on Friday, it feels like we started opening our holiday gifts this morning.   We must be on Santa’s good list this year because the gifts are piled high around every tree on the mountain.

There were plenty of smiling faces in the gondola line this morning eager to get on the mountain and enjoy some fresh tracks.  It has continued to pile up all morning long adding to the already deep snow to be found at the ski area.  There are varied conditions to be found on the mountain today as a bit of wind came through with the storm last night, but certainly plenty of fresh turns from top to bottom.  We found the best conditions to be deep in the trees, specifically ones that are able to block the wind that comes from the west such as Closet and 3:30 trees.  Closer to the summit, the snow is a bit more wind affected and as you go down the mountain it seems to be deeper and easier to ski through.  There were some great turns to be found in the Four Points area, and I hadn’t seen much traffic as of 10:30 am.  But no matter where you go today, there is plenty of deep snow to play in.

There are lots of people on the hill right now enjoying some amazing holiday skiing, and much of the fresh snow was skied quickly this morning.  But if you haven’t made it to the mountain yet, that is no problem because it is DUMPING in Steamboat and those tracks will be covered in no time.  We are under a winter storm warning through Wednesday evening, so this should be another banner week in the Boat.

Pick of the mountain today is Closet: The trees protected the snow from the wind, and it is nice and deep in there.  So many fun twists and turns with unlimited pockets of powder to be found.

It is still snowing hard outside and will be for a while, so get up here for some Christmas freshies!  Have a great day on the mountain.
