It has been snowing a lot in Steamboat lately.  I’m talking 3 feet in the last 7 days at mid-mountain, and over 18 total feet of Champagne Powder on the season.  While there have been a number of great powder days over the last week, today easily takes the cake.  I could barely sleep last night after watching fat snow flakes pile up on the live Champagne Powder snow cam located at the top of Sundown.  If you aren’t familiar with the powder cam yet, it’s time to get acquainted with this incredible time distraction.

We woke up to a ton of snow here in the Yampa Valley today, and it is still snowing.  Last night’s storm couldn’t have come in any better with minimal wind, nice cold temps and that light, delicious Champagne Powder blanketing all of Steamboat.  It’s really good out there today folks: It is deep on the mountain from top to bottom, the snow underneath is soft, and there are no lift lines to speak of.   Now this is Steamboat.

It’s been snowing for so many days in a row, I am starting to lose track of the calendar.  It seems like we are waking up to fresh snow more days than not this year, and it just keeps getting better by the day.  Today started with a run down a nicely groomed Three O’Clock.  Groomed with a foot of fresh on top that is.  Possibly one of the best runs I have had all year — simply incredible and delivering complete powder euphoria.  We made good use of first tracks this morning, enjoying over-the-hood conditions no matter what run we picked.

Eventually, we turned our attention to the trees in Closet, Shadows, Twister and Royal Flush sampling all parts of the mountain today.  Each and every run offered absolutely superb conditions, with fresh lines to be found everywhere and fluffy snow flying over our shoulders leaving nothing but a powder cloud behind us.

It is a great day to be carving up freshies in the Boat, and you should do what ever you can to make it out here for some untracked turns.  It looks like the weather will be clearing to sun this afternoon, so it should be one awesome day on the mountain.

Pick of the mountain today is Three O’Clock:  Groomed with a foot of fresh on top. Need I say more?

Wahoo powder!
