Music in the Mountains
It’s a beautiful morning on Mt. Werner, and though it’s chilly, we’re in positive digits on the temperature scale.

The groomers were spectacular this morning, with grippy, fresh lines of corduroy. Because the temperatures have stayed cold, the snow is in great shape and still soft from the series of storms that brought us more than 16 inches of powder last week.
West Side, Sunshine Lift Line to Rolex, and the runs off Tomahawk were all perfect for carving. I found Two O’Clock turns extra soft with a little reclaimed snow that blew in yesterday afternoon.

The valley is still ringing with the sounds of WinterWonderGrass. As I walked through Gondola Square, bluegrass jams were pumping, giving skiers and riders something to shake their boots to.

We are in full musical swing. Classical music buffs can catch the Steamboat Symphony Orchestra this weekend in their spring Brasstacular concert featuring Strings Music Festival’s renowned director and trumpet soloist, Michael Sachs. We also continue Steamboat’s Bud Light Rocks the Boat free concert series this Saturday with Donovan Frankreiter. Whatever your musical passion, you’ll find your groove in the coming month.
It looks like temperatures will keep warming, and this afternoon could be downright balmy. Neck gaiters and extra layers are a good idea this morning, and you can peel them off for the sunny afternoon. Groomers are my run of choice for the day, and they should only get softer in the sunshine.
I was loving the wide-open slopes and brisk morning air, despite a little ice cream freeze under my helmet. There’s nothing quite like fresh mountain air to wake you up on a Monday.

Here in the Boat, we take our gear seriously, and things like polarized sunglasses are a must. I’ve been seeing a number of dogs lately sporting their own highly protective eyewear, Rex’s Specs. The dogs are adorable in their custom-fitted goggles, and it must feel good for four-legged adventure companions to have some shade from UV rays.

Have a great day on the slopes!
