Monday Turns
It’s a bluebird morning on Mount Werner. Chilly temperatures and sunshine made for a lovely morning on the slopes. The snow is in great condition and with each fresh groom, the carving is sweeter.

It looks like it will be great out there all day today, and with new terrain opening yesterday, we get a little change of scenery. It’s warming up quickly, so bring gators for the morning, wear layers and slather on some sunscreen before you head up.

It was nice to ride the Burgess Creek lift again. I’ve always loved the view from this chair and remember often seeing a resident porcupine frolicking below. Rudi’s Run was skiing great first thing, and the cold consistency of the snow was just right for sinking an edge into.

We spent the first couple of runs on the Heavenly Daze, and it was super smooth underfoot. Conditions are ripe for making lots of quick turns and getting your legs in shape for the powder that’s sure to come. There are rumblings about possible snow as early as Thursday and a more substantial storm this weekend. Stay tuned to the forecast and keep your hopes up!

We can thank our incredible snowmaking crew in the meantime for keeping our slopes worthy. They are working overtime to keep us skiing, and the conditions are remarkably good for how little natural snow has fallen recently.
How lucky are we that we have the ability to create a little white magic while we wait for the real thing? I met a ski instructor recently who told me that back in the ’80s when there was an exceptionally dry year, the whole community had to gather snow and shovel it onto one run just so they could ski. Now that’s dedication. And a whole lot of work!

We have a lot to be grateful for here in the ‘Boat, not least of all is our own St. Bernard, Powder. She’s part of the Steamboat Patrol family and is here to teach the importance of mountain safety. If you didn’t catch her television debut on 9 News, here’s a clip. She’s downright adorable.
Have a fabulous day on the slopes!
