As promised, I hope to share the new twist on my life as a Mountain Mommy. I definitely am no expert, but I am enjoying life in Steamboat through new eyes. Little eyes that at times squint with laughter or stare wide at the marvel of all the snow. As the mother of a one-year old, winter days have taken on a new challenge and delight.
My latest discovery has been our local Bud Werner Memorial Library. This incredible facility has always intrigued me as a standard in our community. Suddenly, it has become a haven of adventure, discovery and toddler meet and greets. Between story time, the fish tank and the rows of books we are in a new world! Lucky for us, it’s a perfect escape on those blistery winter days. I feel so fortunate to have such a remarkable place to visit and share with my daughter.
The long heritage of our library dates back to the late 1800’s where it offered a taste of the world to settlers. Following the tragic death of Buddy Werner in 1965 the community rallied to raise funds to build a new building in honor of Steamboat’s beloved ski racer. Fast forward to 2008 where the newly expanded library offers more community space and more specifically a designated children’s library and reading room.
The library serves as much more than just a house for books. It is one of the many components that make Steamboat unique and full of the community spirit we adore. As I meet with other moms and we chat about our kids and their silly antics we are continuing to make community and if I’m honest, that is what it’s all about.
