When the sun started to rise this morning in Steamboat, there was a fierce chill in the air and an ominous cloud hanging over the mountain. Fortunately for us, that temps are starting to rise and the sun has escaped the cloud bank above the mountain. with bright sunshine in the forecast for the day, we can look forward to sunny groomers and endless views on top of Mt Werner.

It’s hard to go wrong on a day like today, but my suggestion would be to head over to Sunshine lift for some wide open blue runs. Sunshine was closed recently for a mechanical issue, so the main runs like Tomahawk haven’t seen quite as many crowds as other parts of the mountain. It’s a great area for beginners and intermediate riders alike. The undulating runs allow you to reign in your speed if you get going a bit too fast and need to squib some speed. The tree runs and shorter runs going off to the right of Tomahawk are the perfect place to find some leftover powder and learn how to ride in trees.

While there isn’t much snow in the forecast for the next few weeks, we should have a chance at a storm or two coming through this week. Both Wednesday and Friday look like they will be stormy and could surprise us with a fresh coating of snow on the mountain. We’ve had a nice stretch of sunny weather including the perfect afternoon for the Cowboy Downhill yesterday. Nothing say’s Steamboat like a few dozen cowboys sending it off a jump in the sunshine!
