Guns Ablaze
This time of the year, excitement builds for the coming season. First, temps begin to drop, then the leaves begin to change. Soon after that, rainy days turn to snow — we saw more than 20″ in early October. Yesterday, we saw snowmaking start on the mountain. That’s right: The wizards behind the curtain fired up the guns and starting making white gold.
The Steamboat snowmaking team opened the valves of Rocky Mountain water and blew snow all yesterday morning. The temps were in the teens — one of our coldest mornings of the fall. Our city-owned ski area, Howelsen Hill, also fired up its guns and blew snow right beside the Nordic ski jumps.
It’s so exciting to see it all come together. The buzz of the season is getting louder. Ski shops are stocked with gear, our ticket office has been busy, and skiers across the globe are planning their trips to come see us. More milestones will come leading up to opening day. Nov. 22 will be here before we know it. If you haven’t done so already, get those skis out, find your gloves and start conditioning those legs for Champagne Powder® snow.
Have a great weekend and keep the buzz alive.
