Getting PHAT on Turkey Day
For the first time this season, I buckled up my boots, clicked into my bindings and went soaring down the side of Mount Werner. Happy Thanksgiving! The mountain is officially OPEN for skiing and riding.
The 2017-18 season is off to the races, and so were my skis. The snow on the hill this morning was glazed with an overnight chill and felt a bit slick. The fresh wax on my sticks added to the exhilaration as I schussed my way to and fro. The air temperature however was quite moderate, so I expect things to soften up quickly.
Today we’re skiing and riding from the top of the gondola down. That includes iconic runs like Heavenly Daze and Vogue. You’ve got two options for accessing the slopes by way of the gondola or the Christie Peak Express. If you’re still warming up your legs from a summer of sun, the midway stop of the Christie lift is a great place to start. From here, you can get your muscle memory flowing on Stampede.
I’m happy to report that the Straight Talk employee uniforms this season are none other than sweet new Marmot jackets, pants and base layer. It’s been awhile since I’ve worn Marmot, and I almost forgot how amazing these garments are at keeping my body temperature regulated. If you’re shopping for some new garb this winter, I might remind you that the Marmot store located downtown at 7th and Lincoln is having a sale tomorrow through the weekend. Get down there for a great selection of high-performance technical and casual clothing. Buy one and get one 30% off.
But make sure you size yourself before you pass the stuffing. Let us not forget that today is the day we as a nation sink our steely knives into big, fat, delicious turkeys as we enjoy one another’s company and give thanks. Happy Turkey Day to you. I hope to enjoy the thanks that come with multiple feet of stacked powder snow by winter’s end.
