As the snowflakes are starting to fly and with more on the way, winter excitement is abound in Steamboat Springs! In the past week, Steamboat Resort has reported 18 inches of new snow, and more is in the forecast tomorrow through Saturday.

Due to a mechanical issue, the gondola is currently closed, but all of the same terrain is still open and accessible via Thunderhead Express. To reach Thunderhead Express, ski or ride Sitzback to Boulevard from the top of Christie Peak Express, and then stay to your right, which will lead you to the bottom of Thunderhead Express.

As of today, Steamboat opened Oops, which makes a total of 12 open trails for skiers and riders to enjoy. Please note that Oops is a black and that Heavenly Daze is currently skiing a little bit more difficult than your typical blue run. The open terrain accessible from Thunderhead Express is for the more intermediate to advanced skier or rider, so please take that into consideration before loading Thunderhead Express. Terrain accessed via Christie Peak Express would be more ideal for a beginner to intermediate skier or rider.

Heavenly Daze is typically a blue run, but with firm conditions and a more narrow slope, it is skiing more like a black. Heavenly Daze is open on the skier’s right but closed on skier’s left and is more narrow than usual.

Uphill access is currently restricted beyond the top of Christie Peak Express due to the limited terrain open. Please respect this restriction for your own safety and for the safety of others. For more information, please visit the website to learn more about Steamboat’s Uphill Access Policy

The Steamboat Gondola is currently closed but all of the same terrain is open and accessible via Thunderhead Express.

The Steamboat Gondola has been closed since Sunday afternoon due to a mechanical malfunction that occurred on the drive line to the gear box. Currently, the replacement part that is needed is being custom built in Europe. Doppelmayr team members along with other technical experts are on the ground in Steamboat and working together to find the root cause of the mechanical malfunction. For the most current updates on the Steamboat Gondola, please visit the Gondola Construction Updates page on Steamboat’s website.

As the snowflakes are starting to pile up in Steamboat, stay current with the latest lift and trail status information on the Steamboat Ski and Resort app. Despite the current gondola closure, all of the same terrain is open and accessible via Thunderhead Express, so get out and enjoy what Steamboat Resort has to offer!

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving tomorrow and for today, happy Wednesday!
