Fresh powder for Opening Day
When’s the last time you skied fresh powder on Opening Day? It’s going to happen tomorrow.
It’s hard to believe we were golfing and soaking up the sunshine a little more than two weeks ago here in Steamboat Springs. Then the switch flipped to “winter,” and the mountain has been getting hammered with cold weather and snow storms ever since.
We’ve received 52 inches of snow at mid-mountain this month, with nearly half of that falling since this storm system rolled into town Saturday afternoon. In addition to the natural snow, unseasonably low temperatures for November helped our snowmaking team make more than double the amount of snow that is typical for this time of year.
The ski area opens for the season Wednesday for Scholarship Day, an annual fundraiser that benefits the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club scholarship program. All this man-made and natural snow is helping us have our best opening in five seasons with 5 lifts and 52 trails for a total of 655 acres of terrain. Tickets will be $30 for access to all open terrain or $20 for access to the lower mountain. Season passes and other tickets will be accepted beginning Thursday.
