It’s a beautiful start to the holiday weekend in Steamboat, and the groomers are offering up a great morning of skiing. The sun is shining bright over the Yampa Valley and lighting up the perfectly groomed slopes of Steamboat.  It was a surprisingly quiet start to the day with very few skiers around, offering up some nice solitude before all of the skiers and riders hit the mountain for a fun weekend of making turns.  Getting to the mountain early is always rewarded with the best mountain conditions of the day, and today was no exception.

The wind is calm, the temperature is comfortable and the sun feels great.  It got a little chilly at the top of the mountain first thing today, but the temperatures look to be nice during the day so no need to bundle up.  There are some clouds coming in and out, so reach for the in between lenses today.

The snow is keeping in decent condition, especially on the groomed runs.  The best snow conditions are on north and northwest facing slopes, but most groomed runs should be skiing just fine today.  Through out upper mountain the runs were consistent, carvable and predictable.   Its soft enough to sink an edge into and make fast turns with confidence.  Off trail is a bit more firm, but by no means does it resemble spring conditions out there, still keeping a winter feel to things.

Don’t miss making a few turns today before holiday skier traffic arrives.  It is a beautiful morning in the Yampa Valley and the views alone are worth hitting a few laps on the corduroy.  Some potential for snow coming on Sunday night, so do your snow dance and bring a few flakes our way!

Pick of the mountain today is Lower Buddy’s Run: Great turns this morning on the fresh corduroy.  It pays to be on the hill early to carve up those freshly manicured groomers, always a treat!

Have a great weekend of skiing!
