With the increase in visitors and the excitement about the recent snow, it’s as important as ever to hit the mountain early for fresh corduroy, powder and no lift lines.

I started my morning with two laps down Vagabond to get the legs warmed up and to enjoy some fresh corduroy.

The mountain was soft and fast this morning. After lapping Vagabond twice, I decided to shoot over to Storm Peak Express and, to my surprise, there was hardly anyone in line.

The lift ride up provided a nice teaser of soon-to-open terrain. The mountain crews have been working nonstop to get 100 percent of the terrain open. Thanks to the help of Mother Nature, Steamboat opened 51 trails and over 1,200 acres in just two days, with Bar-UE, South Peak and Sunshine Express opening. Steamboat now has the most terrain open in all of Colorado. A little birdie also told me the hike-to terrain on Pony Express is open.

It’s a beautiful, warm and sunny day in the Boat today, which makes for some awesome turns.

From the top of Storm Peak, I shot over to Closet in search of some fresh turns, which weren’t very hard to find.

The moguls on the run out from Closet on Moonlight were soft and sunny, making for a great early morning workout.

There’s a lot of corduroy and some fresh powder turns (with a little effort) as seen here on the backside of the Flatout/Surprise area.

Enjoy those turns today!
