WHAT: Classic Air Medical Celebrates National Safety Month with Helicopter Showcase

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, CO-January 16, 2015-Steamboat Ski Resort has joined forces with Classic Air Medical to allow guests to get up close and personal to a Bell 407 helicopter air ambulance involved in mountain safety, remote response and search and rescue operations.

In an effort to promote increased awareness during National Safety Month, this program allows the public to tour this special vehicle on Saturday, January 17, 2015 from 11:00am to 1:00pm (weather permitting) on Tower trail at the top of the gondola. Sunday has been set as weather back up day for the event.


After a patrol training exercise this past Thursday, Classic Air Medical will again land one of its signature and highly recognizable bright red and white helicopters at mid-mountain on Saturday. Guests can check out the inside of this incredible craft while learning safety tips from the talented on-board crew. The flight crew will be on hand for approximately two hours unless called away for a mission.

For over 26 years, Classic Air Medical has been providing air medical transport in the states of Arizona, Utah, Colorado, Oregon, New Mexico and Wyoming and has a reputation for excellent patient care and safety by providing critical care air transport from rural hospitals and emergency scenes.

Classic Air Medical opened its base at the Steamboat Springs Airport on March 1 and recently reached the 100-mission milestone just nine months later. Classic Air Medical employs eight medical crew members, four pilots and a full-time mechanic ready to respond to a call at all times, covering search & rescue, remote scene responses, inter-facility transports, 24-hour dispatch and rotor and fixed wing transports.

The Bell 407 helicopter integrates reliability, speed, performance, and maneuverability with a cabin configurable for an array of missions and payloads. Its Rolls Royce 250-C47B turbine FADEC engine delivers exceptional high altitude and high performance with the ability to cruise at 140 knots (259 km/hr).

This program is part of National Safety Month and a public service partnership between Classic Air Medical, United States Forest Service and Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation.
