Carvin’ in the Sunshine
It’s another bluebird day on Mt. Werner! The sun is shining, the snow in amazing shape, and the day is only going to get better as the sun warms the slopes. It’s a perfect day to ski some fast groomers and soak up some rays. We even caught a glimpse of a moose strolling on the cat track from the gondola . Let’s consider it a lucky start to the day.
There was another temperature inversion this morning, and we are expecting it to reach the mid 30s by the afternoon. Go ahead and take a ski break, or an afternoon and head up. For those just visiting today, today is a perfect one for the annual holiday photo, and to take in the spectacular 360 degree views of the Yampa Valley.

I was happy to have my gator this morning, as it was a little breezy first thing. The slopes are warming up quickly, and the snow on the groomers has the perfect grip to your edge. The snow is still in great condition for carving because of the cold temperatures overnight.
My first run was a ripper down Sunshine Lift Line to a groomed West Side. The early morning corduroy was firmer, and has started to soften, especially on the slopes that face the sun.
Three O’Clock is groomed all the way down, which was a treat, and Two O’Clock is skiing super smooth this morning. After getting my fill on the Sundown Express side of the mountain, I tried a run down Tornado off of Four Points. There was still plenty of corduroy all the way to Storm Peak Express. Storm Peak to Sunset, Heavenly Daze to See Me. They’re all good today!
The groomers are hard to beat. The skiing was already soft and smooth in the early morning, and I imagine everything including the bumps will continue to soften as the day goes on. The bumps are likely a little firm this morning, but couldn’t tear myself from the groomers to be able to say for sure.

It’s a beautiful day for soaking up some sunshine from the expansive Four Points deck. Anyone who has skied Steamboat for a long time will remember the quaint, cozy little hut it used to be. Now instead of standing shoulder to shoulder with your ski buddies in tight quarters, you can take in the views, and perhaps enjoy an afternoon cocktail from comfy deck chairs.

Snow is coming soon! Keep checking for updated forecasts. In the meantime, carve some turns and bask in today’s abundant sunshine!
Happy skiing and riding!
