Blazing Cold Sun
The frigid snap is kind of subsiding and afternoons are looking increasingly spring-like for a blue-sky weekend. Nothing overly warm is coming our way — just enough sun to make sure you need sunscreen and keep the snow soft.

Sun has done absolutely zero damage to Steamboat’s snow. It’s dry packed powder out there — easy carving and fast. We’re still thoroughly enjoying the 18″ of fresh snow over the past week — sweet groomers, forgiving bumps and leftover fluff in the trees.

I hit Norther first thing off the gondola today, wondering how the bumps are holding out. (Best to start with the little ones, right?) I’m happy to report that it’s a fun and forgiving day to be in the bumps — not a scrapey spot to be found. Feel free to go a little bigger over on Hurricane, too.

And then, on the way down, something epic happened: I had Heavenly Daze, then See Me, all to my self. Yeah, that was a speedy me making enormous sweeping turns, kicking up a little snow dust.

There are at least a couple sure signs of spring on the horizon. Free concert season has arrived in Gondola Square. Fly fishermen are already thigh-deep in the Yampa River, fishing between the frozen banks. And snow is headed back our way on Monday…because spring in the Rockies is for snow, remember?

Smile and enjoy the chilly bluebird day!
