A Snowy Christmas
After riding in Steamboat for 13 years now, there are a few things that I’ve learned you can count on almost every year. Snow on Christmas is one of those things. Sure, there are years where we don’t get an fresh powder under the tree, but this year isn’t one of them. This last storm dropped over a foot on Mt Werner and the riding has been great!
We didn’t get any snow overnight, but there are a lot of leftovers up there and almost no one is up on the mountain. I rode the Pony lift a lot yesterday and would highly recommend exploring some of the runs that branch off from the lift line. Since most people go either left or right from the top of the lift, there is usually a lot of untouched snow if you ride the lift line down about half way and then cut off to the right down Ambush or one of the unnamed runs.

If you want to find some good groomers today, you don’t need to look any farther than Heavenly Daze. The grooming team has done an amazing job this year keeping all our groomed runs in perfect shape. With over 112 inches of snow so far this year they have a lot to work with! The weather is pretty warm today, so you can count on nice conditions most anywhere on the mountain, but I would stick to the lower mountain and enjoy some of our marquee runs. It’s rare to have Heavenly Daze and Vagabond all to yourself, so take advantage of the empty slopes.
The holiday season is one of the best times to be in Steamboat. From the Christmas lights on all the trees to the pristine powder, it truly is a magical time of year in the Yampa Valley. With more snow on the horizon and an awesome start to the season, we have a lot to be thankful for this year. Merry Christmas and happy holidays!
