A Gem of a March Day
Since spring officially arrived on Sunday, it has felt more like winter here in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. In fact, I was planning on writing a blog today about how best to enjoy Springalicious at Steamboat Resort, but with the return of winter, you’ll have to check back next week for that one.

Temperatures have been quite cold early this week and today, and snow has lightly been falling since Sunday night. While the accumulation totals of snow aren’t impressive (four inches since Sunday night), it’s just enough to freshen up the slopes and give your skis and boards that extra traction your legs are looking for.

If I’m honest, I’m a bit bummed that I’m here writing this blog and not still skiing because the slopes are in fantastic condition and today is one of those days we all dream about in March. Sunny skies have made their way back to Steamboat Springs, and spring-like weather is in store for the days ahead, but today is a true March gem. Colder temperatures, fresh snow, parting clouds, sunny skies and fantastically fresh slopes are what you can expect today before significantly warmer temperatures prevail later this week and into the weekend.

Several inches of fresh snow softened up the trees and un-groomed terrain, and on the groomed slopes, made for some soft, fluffy corduroy that our skis and boards (and really, our legs) love the most. If you’re able to get on the mountain early enough, you’ll have plenty of corduroy awaiting you on a day like today. If you’re a little later, stick to the sides of the slopes and you’ll still find those fresh pockets of corduroy just waiting to be carved.

As I mentioned in my last blog, March is the spice of the ski season. It’s a month defined by seasons colliding, overlapping and often getting completely mixed up. One day it’s winter, the next day it’s spring, and so on and so forth. While there is unpredictability in the weather, there is always predictability in the amount of fun this month offers. Steamboat Resort host free concerts every Saturday at 3:30 PM in Gondola Square, and often other special events to maximize the enjoyment of spring skiing.

This Saturday, Con Brio takes the stage for an energetic performance in Gondola Square, and on Sunday, Steamboat Resort is hosting the Coca-Cola Snow Beach Party at the top of the promenade stairs. Make sure to check out Steamboat’s Event Calendar for more details and information on other upcoming events as well.

I seriously hope you were able to get out and take some turns today, or have plans to get out and enjoy the afternoon on the mountain. With only 18 days left in the 2021-2022 ski season, days like today can be fleeting, so get out there and enjoy a true gem of a day in March!

Ski and ride with care and have a great day on the mountain!
