Your Guide to Steamboat Resort’s Mountain Camp for Kids
Mountain Camp at Steamboat Resort
When the snow melts, our mountain turns into a playground for the curious, the creative, and the wild-at-heart. Steamboat’s Mountain Camp invites kids ages 5–16 to spend their summer days outside—exploring trails, making memories, and getting a little dirty in the best way.
It’s camp, the Steamboat way: welcoming, flexible, and packed with just the right mix of mountain adventure and wide-open fun.
A Day on the Mountain
No two days at Mountain Camp are exactly alike—and that’s how we like it. Campers might spend the morning playing games in the aspen groves, take on a scavenger hunt near Burgess Creek, or ride the gondola to explore the top of the mountain. We mix in nature walks, STEM projects, water play, and creative time throughout the week.
We’re also one of the only day camps in Steamboat to offer day-of drop-ins. Whether you’re planning out the summer or looking for a last-minute adventure, we make it easy.
Camper Groups by Age
We group campers by age so everyone feels right at home:
- Yampa Campers | 5 years old to entering 1st grade
Gentle introductions to the outdoors with plenty of play and guided discovery.
- Routt Scouts | Entering 2nd–3rd grade
Big energy, big fun. More freedom to explore and try new things.
- Pioneers | Entering 4th grade up to 16 years old
For older campers who are ready for more independence and bigger adventures.

More Than Just Camp
Specialty experiences that go beyond the trail mix and tie-dye
At Mountain Camp, every day is an adventure—but for kids who want to dig deeper, we offer even more. Our Specialty Camps and Add-On programs invite campers to explore specific interests like biking, climbing, art, and river adventure. Led by passionate instructors and rooted in the beauty of the Yampa Valley, these unique experiences add extra excitement.
Steamboat’s Specialty Camps are designed to take curious minds and adventurous spirits deeper into what they love. These experiences offer added challenges, fresh perspectives, and a whole lot of fun. Most are available as single- or multi-day options.
Whitewater Rafting Adventure
July 24 & 31, August 7 & 14 | Ages 7–16
This full-day outing floats through the scenic Upper Colorado River and gives campers a taste of river life—from reading currents and paddling as a team to learning about riparian ecosystems and spotting wildlife along the way.
Perfect for first-time rafters, the mellow Class I–II rapids offer just enough splash for a fun, safe adventure. Cost includes transportation, lunch, gear, and instruction.
Whether your child is an aspiring artist, climber, biker, or budding naturalist, our Specialty Camps give them room to explore their passions—and maybe even discover a new one.

Mountain Biking Add-On
Tuesdays–Thursdays | For Routt Scouts & Pioneers
Campers in 2nd grade and older can kick it into gear on our world-class downhill mountain biking trails. This popular add-on gives kids the chance to build bike-handling skills, push their limits in a safe and supportive environment, and make lasting connections—with both their peers and the mountain.
Campers must bring their own downhill-ready mountain bike, full-face helmet, and pads. Bikes must have front suspension and working disc brakes on each wheel. Space is limited and available only to campers already registered for Mountain Camp that day. Groups will be broken out based on skill level.
Creative Minds Art Camp
July 21–25, 2025 | Ages 7–16
Let creativity run wild. This 5-day experience invites young artists to explore painting, design, and mixed media while drawing inspiration from the natural beauty of the Yampa Valley. Campers will meet local artists and peek behind the scenes at how Steamboat Resort uses art to bring the mountain to life—from signage and wayfinding to visual storytelling.
The camp ends with a chance to showcase your own original design—and maybe even have it featured around the resort. Enrollment is available for the full week only.
Climbing Camp
June 16–20 and July 28–August 1, 2025 | Ages 7–16
In partnership with Steamboat Climbing Collective, this 5-day camp is perfect for kids ready to reach new heights. Campers will be grouped by ability and explore indoor and outdoor climbing while learning essential safety skills, knot-tying, movement techniques, and more. Daily games and challenges keep things playful, and transportation plus snacks are included.
Pack a lunch, bring a water bottle, and get ready to climb, play, and grow—one hold at a time. Register online here.
See You on the Mountain
At Mountain Camp, kids don’t just pass the time—they find their footing. They discover new trails, new skills, new friends, and new sides of themselves. Whether they’re racing through wildflowers, creating something beautiful, or conquering their first climbing wall, they walk away a little braver, a little stronger, and a lot more connected to this special place.
Come for a day or stay for the season. However you join us, we’ll be here—ready to welcome your camper with open arms.
