Good morning from a perfect spring morning in the Boat!  Beautiful blue sky and warm temperatures point towards an excellent day of skiing ahead.  As the sun comes up and starts to shine over Steamboat Ski Area, the turns are getting better by the minute.  It’s a great day to grab your sunny lenses and head up for some great corn skiing.

The weather couldn’t be any nicer right now.  Very comfortable temps, clear sky, bright sun… a recipe for spring skiing success.  The weather is looking to be this wonderful for quite a few days, so it should be an excellent few days of skiing and riding.  There is a storm brewing in the long term forecast, but for now it is nothing but glorious sunshine.

Usually, showing up first thing gives you the best turns of the day.  When the spring melt/freeze starts happening, around 10:00 might be a more ideal time to hit the slopes.  While the solitude of 8:30am skiing is pretty awesome right now, the snow definitely needs to warm up for the good turns.  With such a nice day ahead, I would expect some nice corn skiing from 10-12 or so, and then spring slush for the rest of the day.  I love powder days no doubt, but there is just something awesome about spring slush turns.

It’s a great day to be making turns, but take your time getting up there today.   Make sure you put on plenty of sunscreen and get ready for a day of fun!  The prime window of skiing right now is 10:00-2:00, and the place to be will be south and west facing runs(most of Steamboat).  Soak up this sunshine the next few days, the spring skiing conditions are going to be absolutely prime!

Pick of the mountain today is Tomahawk: For early morning turns in the spring, this is a go-to run because of the sun it gets first thing.

Have a great day on the mountain!
