24 Days
I went there this morning. I opened up the calendar and counted only 24 days left in the ski season after today. Steamboat closes April 15. Thankfully the mountain is still skiing great, especially after the last storm blessed us with 15 inches of the fluffy white stuff.
Keeping the dwindling number of days left to make turns in mind, I skied this morning as if the mountain were closing next week. I enjoyed the turns and fresh, cool air a little more today knowing I’ll be hanging up my skis for my mountain bike in less than a month. There are still some leftover soft turns to be had from the past storm; you just have to put forth a little more effort to find it.

Besides searching every nook and cranny for soft, succulent pow, the groomers are skiing great with fresh corduroy and hardly anyone on the mountain!

A must do tomorrow is Steamboat Friday Nights. Enjoy skiing freshly groomed trails under the lights with a breathtaking sunset, fireworks shooting off overhead, and screams from your spouse while tearing down the Outlaw Mountain Coaster.

It is a night you will never forget. My wife and I went a month ago and bought the Adventure four-pack: night skiing from 6-9 p.m., fireworks at 8 p.m., and two mountain coaster rides. What more could you ask for? A root beer float you say? They thought of it all: You also get an ice cream float at Gondola Joe’s as part of the four-pack.
See you on the mountain!
