It’s a bluebird day in the ‘boat… at least for now.  With several winter storms on the way to Steamboat, today is a great day to get out and enjoy Colorado’s deep blue skies and brilliantly warm sunshine before the snow returns.

With comfortable temperatures, plenty of sunshine and an impressively solid base, Wednesday morning in Steamboat certainly started off on the right ski, so to speak.  The groomed trails this morning were fast and occasionally a bit firm, but with a rising sun dressing the entire mountain in warm rays, I would expect the snow to soften up a bit, giving your knees a little bit more cushion as you cruise down the sunny slopes.  When it’s not a powder day in Steamboat, days like today are my second favorite, giving my soul that sunny spark it needs during the colder winter months.

As we approach the month of March, we approach the month of fun with all of the events Steamboat Ski Resort offers.  For starters, Steamboat celebrates Mardi Gras this weekend with a free concert, parade, a Cajun Crawfish Boil and party featuring face painters and street performers.  Also this weekend, as you’re skiing or riding on Saturday, check out the Colorado Pro Cup (part of the World Pro Ski Tour) on See Me, featuring Olympians and National Champions from the USA and around the world.

March also brings the highly anticipated Bud Light Rocks the Boat free concert series every Saturday from 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM in Gondola Square through the end of ski season.  If that’s not enough fun for you, Steamboat Friday Nights offer a DJ dance party, a light up ski parade, trivia fun and fireworks to end the night.  Also especially great this time of year are Steamboat’s Sunset Happy Hours at the top of the gondola, offering specialty cocktails and appetizers along with live music while you enjoy a spectacular sunset view.

Something that is new to Steamboat this year, and something that is especially fun with warmer temperatures and a lot of sunshine, is the Taco Beast, a snowcat mountain food truck.  Today, the Taco Beast is set up at the top of Sunshine Express, offering stunning views and delicious tacos to be enjoyed in the sun’s warm rays.  Follow @TacoBeastSBT on Twitter for status updates and current locations.

Steamboat certainly does offer a plethora of opportunities to have fun, and this winter especially, Steamboat is also offering an impressive amount of snow and powder day opportunities.  Later today, we should expect to see a fairly weak winter storm approach, bringing about 1-3 inches of snow overnight.  However, a much stronger winter storm is expected to arrive Thursday night and bring anywhere between 1-3 feet from Thursday into Monday.

My family and I recently traveled to southern California, and of all places, became stranded in a highly unusual snowstorm.  While we thought we  were escaping to warm temperatures and abundant sunshine, we ended up having a snowstorm adventure that we will remember for a lifetime.  While our two young kids thought riding in police cars and spending some time at a fire station was an epic experience, we certainly did not expect and were not prepared for southern California snow.  Now that we are back home in Steamboat, we will certainly welcome the snow and the potential for more than one powder morning in the days ahead.

Steamboat Ski Resort is in fantastic shape and does not necessarily need the snow, but we all love that feeling of floating effortlessly through Steamboat’s champagne powder®, so why not do your best snow dance and hope for a powder morning or two or three or four!

Happy Wednesday!
