The sound of music will be cascading over Gondola Square this weekend as the Steamboat Mountain Music Free Concert Series kicks off on Friday with a hoot. One of the coolest events of the season begins this week with the jam band rhythms of the New Orleans Suspects.

These bandmates travel to Steamboat Springs with musical resumes that include memberships in such groups as the Neville Brothers, James Brown Band, the Radiators and more. In fact, drummer “Mean” Willie Green has recorded sessions with the likes of Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Edie Brickell and the Grateful Dead. This high pedigree of musical talent will grace the Steamboat Stage in Gondola Square from 7:30-9:30pm.

And let’s not forget that Fridays at the Steamboat Resort also include some family activities at The Land Up, including free jumps for the kids at the bounce house and Happy Hour for mom & dad from 4-7pm. For those looking to experience a bit more adventure, unlimited activity passes including coaster rides are just $39 for adults and $29 for children. The fun includes Maverick Mini-Golf, Kilimanjaro Climbing Wall, Outlaw Mountain Coaster, Rock & Roll Tubing, ropes course, bungee trampolines and mini-boats.

Now if free concerts aren’t quite you’re thing, no worries. Perhaps your style is a bit more laid back and relaxed. So mark your calendar for another Saturday free movie in Gondola Square. Movies are broadcast “drive-in theater” style and this week’s film is Ralph Breaks the Internet. Movies begin at 8:45pm and you’re encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket, grab yourself some popcorn and nestle in for the show. The free movie series at the Steamboat Resort is one of my family’s most fun things to do, for sure.

So rest up, my friends. The weekend kicks off tomorrow and there is plenty to do and see around here.

Happy Trails,

Dave Wittlinger, Cyclist / Outdoor Enthusiast
