Ski Ya Next Time
It’s hard to believe, but another ski season at Steamboat Ski Resort comes to a close this week. This was my 13th winter in the Boat, and I have to say it was a pretty good one. December was deep on the regular, and I’m not sure if we saw the sun but a time or two. Mid-winter brought us a lot of sun, not much precipitation and allowed us to enjoy some corduroy under clear skies. The final part of the season was exceptional, offering countless powder days on a very filled-in mountain, where giant boulders are now just mounds of snow. With the summit base measuring almost 100” this week, that alone says it was a pretty good year on the mountain. And with more snow coming before we call it quits on Sunday, we may even come close to the 400” mark at mid-mountain putting, us even further above average snowfall on the year.
I have been doing the Straight Talk report for almost 10 years now and am always happy to return to this job. I mainly love to take photos and do my best to put fancy adjectives to what happened on the hill that day for everyone reading this report to check out. I want to leave you this season with some of my favorite images from this year in Steamboat as photos say so much more than words ever can. Thank you to everyone who reads the Straight Talk blog. To those who live vicariously through the reports in a far off land, to those who live in town and read the reports to see if they should skip work that day because of how good it is, and to those who read it just to see some ski photos, we appreciate you reading along this season.
Have a fun and safe summer. We’ll ski ya next season.
Cheers, Steamboat!
