Powder-roy Sun-soaker
Wow! What an amazing day it’s already turned out to be! I’ve accepted that spring is here, and that I’m about to have shoulder surgery, so I’m making the most of my last days on snow. Today was an incredible one to say the least! One inch of fresh, dry snow on top of corduroy was absolutely magnificent to wake up to this morning. Another blessed day in the ‘boat!

Upper mountain conditions are absolutely fantastic right now. Great coverage, dry snow, and perfect grooming make for phenomenal spring break skiing. As you make your way up top, be ready for warm temperatures and fun, fast turns!

I began my day on Tomahawk, then cut down Flintlock for first-track powder dustings. A fun carve-tastic ripper down West Side loaded me back up Elkhead lift and over to Lower Rainbow. More effortless velvet carpet ushered me all the way down to Pony Express. No lift lines make for quick runs. Just one of many perks about Steamboat!

A fun cruise down my newest-favorite run, Longhorn, had me sharing turns with a group of men that were having the time of their lives. Carrying on with hoots and hollers and this swooshed their way down in front of me. What they call vacation, I get to call real life. What a lucky girl I truly am!

As I made my way down to lower mountain, snow conditions were drastically changing. The cold, dry snow up top quickly changes to wet, heavy snow at the bottom. Please be aware of this and be prepared for the transition. If you’ve had an incredible day up top and your legs are feeling a little heavy, never feel guilty about riding the gondola down. If you choose to ski, keep your guard up and ski strongly all the way to the base area. The last thing anyone needs is a late-season injury.

As I begin to close out my season and prepare for my March 27 shoulder reconstruction, I want to share my appreciation for what we have here in Steamboat: a wonderful community, an epic ski resort, and the most beautiful landscape imaginable.
Today’s Bud Light Rocks the Boat Concert Series features Magic Giant. Described as rave-folk, I’ve heard nothing but incredible things regarding their music and their performance. Make sure to get to the base and support these fantastic free shows!
Hasta Luego!
