One Deep Breath
So I stumbled into a local ski shop this past week “just to look.” Before I knew it, the money in my pocket began to burn a hole so I promptly handed it over the counter and walked out with a brand new pair of powder skis. And boy was I glad I did!
Today’s double-digit dumping was nothing short of pristine.
My first run of the day just happened to be down Rolex and it was untouched (sorry to rub it in). The buttery feeling below my new sticks and the exhilaration of the open space below made my heart and lungs dance. In the back of my head I couldn’t help but think that if this was the beginning of my Sunday then how on earth could I imagine saying I hadn’t had one of the best weekends in recent memory?
After a few laps on the Sundown side of the hill, I trekked my way over to the Pony Express lift. The tree skiing of Fetcher Glade was some of the richest, creamiest snow of my career. About half way down I realized that I was pacing quite fast and needed to take a moment to get my wits about me. One deep breath later and I was off to the races. There’s just something about knee-deep powder in Steamboat that turns mere mortals into super heroes when it comes to tracking up the slopes. Today was no exception.
On my final run of the morning I decided to check out Upper Valley View. On skier’s-left of the run you will find some incredible fields of white gold. That is to say there is plenty of depth and comfort in the snow you’ll find on lower mountain today. In fact, I don’t think you could find a bad run if you tried. After snow dumps like this, our entire resort is renewed once again. So get out there and get some.
Just remember to breathe.
