One of the best things about living in Steamboat, especially with two young kids, is the extraordinary amount of things to do for families here. No more than in the summer months of July and August, the resort base area is bustling with activity.

And life can’t get much better than when you’re able to sit under the stars and take in classic movies in an outdoor setting at the Steamboat Stage. You guessed it, I’m talking about the “Movies on the Mountain” summer series of free movies projected on the big screen in Gondola Square. Bring your lawn chair or cozy blanket and nestle in because this week’s motion picture cinema is none other than The Goonies (Saturday, August 3rd).

Outdoor movies shown weekly on Saturday nights here are just some of the many reasons to pack up the family and head for the mountain this summer. Other activities to enjoy include Yoga + Hike sessions on Friday mornings as well as bike rentals from the Steamboat Bike Shop. In fact, twilight a la carte bike rentals and protective gear are 20% off from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm daily.

If life at a slower pace is more in line with your interests, one of the simplest ways to enjoy the area is to just sit back and soak in a classic Colorado sunset. Our local Chamber recently published a list of locals’ favorite places to capture a glimpse of the sun dipping low for the last time of the day, and you can find a complete list of these opportunities posted online. Some of the best photos I’ve ever seen on Instagram and the like have been captured at dusk right here in Steamboat Springs.

So spark up your sense of adventure and head outside for the some of these premier activities available on your next stay in Steamboat Springs. From active exploration to passive entertainment, we’ve got you covered.

Happy trails,
